The carbon brush contacts the copper which is on the winding coils, which allows the motor to rotate. However, due to the high-speed rotation, the carbon brush will suffer the abrasion. Therefore in the era of carbon brush competition motor, besides replacing the carbon brush, we need to polish the copper head to keep it smooth. After changing the carbon brush, we also need to polish and maximize the contact area between the carbon brush and the copper head, so as to increase the speed and torque of the motor by maximizing the current.
