The power motors of micro drones can be divided into two categories: brushmotors and brushless motors. Among them, brush motor has not been used in the field of drones gradually because of its low efficiency.
The model of drone power motor has some connections with its size. For example, there is a brush of 370 motor, which means that the length of it is 37mm except the length of the shaft; the 2208 electronic brushless motor’s diameter of the stator coil is 22mm, except the the 8mm of the axis electronic coil’s length. Of course, there are some models that are equivalent to a certain level, and some manufacturers name the models. There are many technical indicators of motors, and the two most related to the dynamic characteristics of drones are speed and power. The speed is usually expressed by kV, which refers to the speed per minute (V) per minute. For example, a kV1000 motor, it has a 11.1V battery, so the motor speed should be 1000 x 11.1=11100, that is 11100 rpm.
The motors used by drones have the advantages which are unparalleled by other power devices, such as simple structure, light weight and convenient use. These advantages can make the drones’ features of noise and infrared became very weak, and it can also provide the same power ratio with the internal combustion engine. It is especially suitable for being used in low altitude, low speed of micro power drone. For example, the American FQM-151A "pointer" hand throwing drone uses a 300W samarium cobalt motor; the French "azimuth" portable light drone uses a 600W brushless DC motor; and the Russian "Dragonfly" short-range surveillance and the environmental monitoring drone use a 7.5KW motor.
